Welcome to our school.

For more than 20 years, I have had the privilege of working in Special Educational Needs (SEN) education, supporting children and young people to discover their strengths, overcome barriers and achieve more than they ever thought possible. Throughout my career, I have worked across a range of specialist settings, and one belief has remained constant: every child has unique talents, limitless potential and the right to an education that enables them to flourish.

As Headteacher, I am proud to lead a school where ambition and compassion go hand in hand. We are committed to creating a safe, nurturing and inspiring environment where every pupil feels seen, heard and valued for who they are. We celebrate individuality, champion achievement in all its forms and provide the personalised support that empowers every young person to grow in confidence, develop independence and become the very best version of themselves.

Our vision extends beyond academic success. We strive to equip our pupils with the resilience, communication skills and self-belief they need to embrace opportunities, navigate challenges and lead fulfilling, meaningful lives. Every lesson, every experience and every relationship within our school is built on the understanding that learning is about unlocking potential and creating brighter futures.

This can only be achieved through strong partnerships. By working closely with families, dedicated staff and a wide range of professionals, we create a community where everyone shares a common purpose: ensuring every child receives the highest quality education, care and encouragement to succeed.

Outside of school, I enjoy travelling and experiencing different cultures, which continually reminds me of the value of curiosity, diversity and lifelong learning. Music is another passion of mine, and I love the energy and connection that live performances bring. Whether walking in the countryside with family and friends or simply spending time outdoors, I value the opportunity to reflect, recharge and appreciate the world around us. These experiences continue to shape the values I bring to school each day.

I am incredibly proud to lead such a talented, dedicated and compassionate team. Together, we believe that with the right environment, the right support and the right opportunities, every child can achieve extraordinary things.

Martina Phillips – Assistant Headteacher

Staff Name

I am the Assistant Headteacher and Science teacher, and I feel incredibly privileged to be part of our school community. I am passionate about helping every young person feel safe, valued, and confident in themselves, whatever their starting point. Building positive relationships is at the heart of everything I do, and I believe that when students feel understood and supported, they can achieve amazing things. I love making learning practical, engaging, and fun, and I am committed to working closely with families and colleagues to ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive both in and beyond the classroom.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family, my two dogs, and all kinds of animals. I also have a real love of music and enjoy going to live concerts whenever I can.

Eleanor Taylor– Clinical Lead

Staff Name

Since qualifying as a Speech and Language Therapist almost 15 years ago, I have supported children and young people between the age of 5 – 19 years with speech, language and communication needs. My specialism falls within language, communication and neurodivergence. I am particularly interested in research and evidence-based practice, and I am currently completing my MSc in Clinical Advanced Practice.

I joined Outcomes First Group as a Lead Clinician two years ago and have enjoyed working interprofessionally to support positive outcomes for children, young people and the teams around them. Outside of work, you’ll usually find me spending time with my family and dog, planning my next trip, experimenting in the kitchen, or gardening (when the sun is out!)

Shelly Sully – SENCO

Staff Name

I am a qualified teacher with experience across both primary and secondary education. Throughout my career, I have worked in several specialist schools supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and autism, developing a strong understanding of inclusive and personalised approaches to learning. I also hold a degree in Psychology, with a specialism in children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), which complements my teaching experience and informs my commitment to supporting every learner to reach their full potential.

I am looking forward to supporting the children at Abbey Gardens School to reach their full potential during their time there, while helping to prepare them for the wider world when they leave. I am passionate about creating a positive, nurturing environment where every child feels valued, supported, and encouraged to grow in confidence, independence, and resilience.

Outside of school, I enjoy travelling with my family, playing sports, and spending time outdoors. I value these moments as they help me stay active, balanced, and connected with the people who matter most to me.
